Japan Karate Association England (JKAE) is a non-profit association located in England and Wales. It is associated with the Japan Karate Association (JKA) in Japan, which is one of the world's most prestigious, oldest, and largest Shotokan Karate organisations.

Sensei Yoshinobu Ohta (7th Dan) serves as Chief Instructor, and the Executive and Technical Committees provide administrative and practical guidance to JKA England.

Japan Karate Association (JKA) 日本空手協会

Japan Karate Association (JKA) is the largest and most prestigious karate organisation in the world. Their mission is to promote the way of karate-do worldwide while maintaining its adherence to the philosophical principles established by the JKA in 1948.

JKA teaches Shotokan Karate, which is a very traditional and widely practiced style of karate. It was brought to Japan from Okinawa by Supreme Master Funakoshi Gichin. Shotokan karate focuses on basic techniques, forms, and sparring to create strong and dynamic moves.

JKA England maintains a strong and direct link with the JKA in Japan. Our Chief Instructor and other senior instructors regularly travel to train in Japan and twice a year we invite world-renowned instructors from Japan to teach at our International Courses.

JKA England International Courses

At JKA England, we take pride in offering exceptional training opportunities to our members. One of the highlights of our year is the hosting of two international courses, where we invite guest instructors from JKA HQ to share their expertise with our students.

These courses not only provide a platform for learning and growth but also offer the chance to take JKA Dan examinations up to 5th Dan. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to obtain international qualifications for instructor, judge, and examiner.

Over the years, we have had the privilege of hosting numerous prominent Sensei's who have enriched our training experience and inspired us to reach new heights in our karate journey.

Guest Instructors

As part of the JKA World Federation, we are affiliated to the JKA in Japan. In recent years, many world class leading instructors have visited England to teach. These include:
