Squad Open Date 1st October and 2017 Events (2 comments)

I think we can all agree that it was a massive World Cup staged fantastically by JKA Ireland. They did an excellent job with the atmosphere and hospitality being second to none!

For JKA England, it was a strong squad effort that netted one individual medal, Endri Krasnigi for Bronze 16-18 Male Kumite, and 2 team medals for the fantastically consistent Ladies team, Bronze for Kanku-Sho Kata and Silver in Kumite. Rumour has it that Endri continued on to the Semi Final with a broken nose showing real spirit!

The Ladies Kumite final was an amazing display of grit, determination and timing. It went right down to extra time with both sides having to pick their best fighter and Japan just edged it in the final confrontation.

The next World Cup will be held in Tokyo in 2020 which also happens to be the Olympic year! If you want to have a chance at competing in three years’ time, JKA England are holding an Open Squad Session on the 1st October at Westminster SKC at St Andrew’s Boys Club, Old Pye Street, London. Students must be Shodan level with the right attitude. The attitude is the most important thing!

  • Spirit
  • Character
  • Willingness to learn
  • Work ethic
  • Commitment

If you have all these qualities and attend the Open Session you may well be standing on the mat at the Budokan, Tokyo in 2020 representing England.

Moving forward in the JKA England calendar year, we have two events that are on the horizon. 17th September will see the next All Grades Course and Dan Grading take place at Hatfield Sports Village, Hertfordshire. The emphasis is on All Grades as all grades can attend, a course can really boost your development and widen your vision of Karate. It also gives you a chance to gain perspective on your own Karate and where you stand in your progression. Please see this page for more info and how to book and there are also  two option on the drop down as there are two prices £10 for Brown and Black and £5 for Kyu Grades! Come get involved!

There are many more events coming up in the last quarter of 2017 including the Four Nations Open 4th November  and not least the International Course at the beginning of December 1st-3rd December so please keep an eye on the JKA Facebook page!
