6th JKA England National Championships
Sunday 5th July saw the 6th JKA England Championships take place at the Elmbridge Xcel Leisure Complex in Walton on Thames. Nearly 300 individual entries and 60 teams competed across 21 categories in an energetic day of competition.
The opening elimination rounds of Kata and Kumite were of a very high standard and showed that we were in for an exhilarating day.
After a short break for lunch, Ohta Sensei introduced the newly elected Executive Committee for the Association and praised the outgoing members for their efforts in making the Association the success it is today.
The Kata and Kumite finals were some of the most exciting we have seen. The level of expertise in Kata and the spirit shown in Kumite kept the crowds enthralled and cheering throughout.
We were honoured and privileged to have Mr. Matsunaga, the Education Attaché and First Secretary to the Embassy of Japan present for the finals, who kindly agreed to present the Japanese Ambassador’s Cup to the overall winners:
- Best Female Junior – Talin Keoshegrain
- Best Male Junior – Tom Tsao
- Best Female Senior – Roisin Campbell
- Best Male Senior – Leon Gordan
